How our DIY units works

Thank you for visiting our site!

All our kitchen units comes pre-assembled and ready to fit!

This tutoral is written especially to those who have very little or no knowledge of modern kitchen installations and what it entails. It is here to help you to know the basics of what you will need to install your dream kitchen from start to all the finishing touches!

Lets begin at your design. You need a basic layout or floor plan for your kitchen. This will include the size of your kitchen, will it be a U shape L shape or just a straight line! Start by making a rough sketch of the floor plan. Nothing fancy. You need to measure the different walls the units will run along on this floor plan. Mark it like wall "A", wall "B" etc. On this floor plan mark out the following points:

A) Stove connection or where the stove will be

B) Water connections or where the sink, basins or washing machine drain pipes or water connections are or will be

C) Show door entrances and measurements indicating where openings are

D) Show windows and approximately where they are in any wall where cupboards will be fitted.

These are the basic requirements for a succesful kitchen layout and will also help us understand how your design will shape around these points.

Now you can start drawing up the layout and filling in the space with our ready to install units!

1. CHOOSING YOUR UNITS

Depending on your design or layout, you will choose different units for your layout. There is mostly 3 different units in an ordinary kitchen:

A. Floor or base units

B. Wall units

C. Tall units like grocery units.

1. Floor units has different units available,

A. Shelve units

B. Broom units in different sizes and heights available. Mostly open units where you can put in brooms, vacuum etc

C. Pantry units which is mostly a kind of walk in corner unit in different sizes and heights and is our only unit that comes flat pack because of its dimensions and size!

B. CHOOSING YOUR DOORS

At C Lite we offer our customers 5 basic door choices!

1. Standard melamine door finishes in white or in the color ranges available from our suppliers.

2. Gloss, supa textured or matt finishes in the standard color ranges available from our suppliers

3. Wrap doors in different profiles and styles in a wide range of PVC wrap color finishes

4. Solid wood doors in semi solid finishes or solid inlay profiles available

5. Duco finish doors in matt, satin or gloss finishes in different profiles mostly on mdf base finish

Because we offer MANY DIFFERENT door styles and finishes doors MUST be chosen seperately to ADD them to your units.

Doors must be added to each unit. Price will update as soon as you add your doors. Some doors like solid wood doors are not on  our pricing options and will be priced on enquiry/

When choosing any unit, please make sure you choose the right door by selecting the door in the dropdown menu below "AVAILABLE OPTIONS"

The price you see with any unit you choose is for the most part the price of the carcass and not the complete unit. Because there are different doors and styles or profiles price differs according to each. The price you see is for the unit/carcass and should you only need the carcass without the doors or extras then the price you see is the price for the unit.

First choose your unit, secondly you need to choose the door/s for the unit, There are different options as there are different doors and profiles each with their different color options,

Doors comes in std white, color, gloss, wrap profiles etc. From the drop down meny below "AVAILABLE OPTIONS" choose the desire door and or profile door you would like on your kitchen. This will recalculate the price and add it to the carcass price.

You now can also choose the edging color that will be on the front of the carcasses but it normally is the same as the door color you will choose.

Once you have chosen all your units and added the doors of your choice your order or cart will be updated with all your units.

Hinges is Including in the doors you choose and will be given according to the units you choose as there are different hinges for the different units!

C. CHOOSING SIDE PANELS OR EXPOSE PANELS

It is worth noting that all our carcasses or units comes in A grade standard white melawood finish. When fitting your units you will "connect" each unit as per your layout with the one next to it and line them up as your design progress. All units next to each other connecting with each other mostly by lining them up in the front of each unit and at the top of each unit making sure they all become "one" (talk to our sales team if you want to learn more on how to fit each unit to the rest)

Now as you have "connected" all the units together you now may have units that starts against a wall and run to where one or more units will have an "expose side." These expose sides remember will now be white as this is the color of the carcasses and this expose side is where you must add "side panels" or expose panels that is the same color or finish as your doors! This means that wherever there is expose parts you need side panels to finish this off! Side panels almost act like doors but is fitted to the side of the units to finish everything off.

This is also true of fillers and have the same work as side panels only to close off gaps and spaces you may have between walls and units etc.

SO again just to make it clear again the use of side panels. All our units comes in white finish melawood with white backings. This means that the sides of the carcasses is white, but lets say you are going with a color finish for your kitchen. All expose sides or facings will be white because the carcasses is white and when adding your doors the units will now have the fronts in color but on every end of an open unit will be white and you want it the same color as the doors so you need a side panel that will match your doors and finish it nicely of! Units sides that are against the wall does not need a side panel (we suggest you put in a filler to space it a little from the wall) - you need side panels on all expose sides that will be seen otherwise you will end up with a white side!

From the menu you can choose your side panels, depending on your unit and layout you will need one or other side panel - you can choose side panels HERE - if everything ends up against walls you dont need side panels. If you are unsure what side panel you will need please contact us with your design or layout and we will gladly assist.

D. CHOOSING KICK PLATES AND TOP PLATES

The same as above with the kick plates. The carcasses comes without doors, tops, kick plates or and accresories and must be chosen as an extra. Top and kick plates can be chosen the same as the side panels above or you can also make use of other options like tiling etc.

Kick plates can be ordered HERE

That's it! You are basicly done! You now need to fill in the units drawer, shelve, etc till you have what you want all filling up your kitchen space! Now remember there may be an odd space that doesnt work out on your layout and you are either short or too long working on the standard units sizes! No worries, we have this covered! You can requist a custom size to any unit to fill up that space or use a filler with the same finish to fill up that awkward space!
